Mercedes picks at Red Bull F1 tech strength

Mercedes has lured two key members of the Red Bull Racing backroom staff away from Milton Keynes ahead of the 2014 F1 campaign.
Mercedes has become the latest F1 outfit to acquire members of the world champion Red Bull Racing technical strength as it looks to bolster its opposition to the Milton Keynes squad in 2014.

Having finished as runner-up to RBR in this year's constructors' championship, the Brackley operation will go into battle in 2014 with two members of Adrian Newey's backroom staff wearing silver rather than navy blue, as the BBC reports that
Mark Ellis and Giles Wood will swap sides over the winter.

Ellis had held the role of chief engineer for vehicle dynamics at Red Bull since 2008, while Wood held a similar position in charge of simulation and analysis. Both had been at the world champions for at least five years, and bring prior experience from stints at BAR Honda and McLaren respectively.

The pair are the first key additions to the Mercedes technical team since it was announced that Ross Brawn would be standing down as team principal at the end of the month, and their departures come in the wake of news back in the summer that head of aerodynamics Peter Prodromou would be returning to McLaren at some point in the future.

Prodromou, seen as a key member of Newey's staff at RBR, still has time to run on his contract, and team principal Christian Horner insists that he intends to hold on to the aero expert for as long as possible.
