Former F1 champion Michael Schumacher injured in skiing accident

Former F1 world champion Michael Schumacher has been injured in a skiing accident in France according to media reports
Seven-time F1 world champion Michael Schumacher has been taken to hospital following an accident while skiing in the French resort of Meribel.

According to initial media reports from Europe 1, the former Ferrari and Mercedes driver was airlifted to hospital with 'serious head injuries', although there was no official comment from either the hospital or Schumacher's representatives.

The director of the ski station where Schumacher was injured has since made comment on the incident, however, insisting that the 44-year-old was 'shaken but conscious' when taken to hospital and had been wearing a helmet at the time.

Christophe Gernignon-Lecomte also insisted that the injuries may not be as serious as first suggested.

"He was shocked, a little shaken but conscious,” he told RMC Sport. "It may be a head injury but it is not very serious.

"He was wearing a helmet and banged [his head] against a rock."

Schumacher, who retired from F1 for a second time at the end of 2012, is reported to have been skiing off piste when the incident happened.

Initially he was taken to a local hospital in Meribel before being transferred to a larger one in Grenoble.

A statement issued by his spokeswomen, Sabine Kehm, reads:

“Michael fell on his head when he was on a private skiing trip in the French Alps. He was taken to hospital and is receiving professional medical attention.

"We ask for understanding that we cannot give out continuous information about his health. He was wearing a helmet and was not alone.

"No one else was involved in the fall.”

Yeyo... what an absolutely ridiculous statement. Michael was not trying to prove anything, he was just trying to have fun. How good does he have to be to enjoy something and be considered good at it in your mind, a World Champion? As a 'very rich man' how should HE enjoy HIS money according you to, by sitting on a couch and staring at it?? I think Michael should enjoy himself, all his success and money as HE want to and does what makes HIM happy. For some enjoyment is sitting at home reading a book. For others it involves risk. Take a guess which a race car driver will choose? I hope the injury isn't too bad and he gets back up on the slopes the second he is able to.
