Statement from Michael Schumacher's family after his skiing accident

“We'd like to thank the people from all around the world who have expressed their sympathy and sent their best wishes for Michael's recovery...” - Schumacher family.
Michael Schumacher's family has issued a short statement thanking people for all their messages of support after the seven-time F1 world champion was seriously injured in a skiing accident on Sunday.

A missive issued by Schumacher's spokeswomen, Sabine Kehm, today [Monday], also thanks the medical team in Grenoble, who are caring for the 44-year-old as he fights for his life.

The statement reads:

“We would like to thank the medical team who we know do everything possible to help Michael.

“We like to also thank the people from all around the world who have expressed their sympathy and sent their best wishes for Michael's recovery.

“We would like to ask the media to respect the privacy of us and our friends and thank them for their support.

“Thank you.”

F1 drivers and teams have all sent messages of support, as have a number of people outside the sport, including Angela Merkel, the German Chancellor.

“We listened to the doctors earlier as they described the situation as extraordinarily serious,” Merkel's spokesman, Steffen Seibert, told reporters, according to British newspaper, The Daily Telegraph. “We hope, along with Michael Schumacher and his family, that his injuries will heal and he will recover. We wish his wife, his children and the rest of his family strength and mutual support.”
