Mark Blundell admits that it is hard to accept Michael Schumacher's current predicament, having seen the German spend more than 20 years in the high-risk world of F1.

The seven-time world champion suffered severe head injuries in a skiing accident between Christmas and the New Year, and remains in a medically-induced coma, but Blundell points out that, despite the daredevil image possessed by race drivers, there is always an element of 'self preservation' that suggests that Schumacher would not have taken undue risk on the slopes.
