The announcement that Ron Dennis has returned to the role of McLaren Group CEO
has increased the pressure on Martin Whitmarsh going into the 2014 F1 season.
Whitmarsh was already feeling the heat after a disappointing 2013 season for the Woking-based team, where it failed to even make it onto the podium.
Doubts now exist over whether Whitmarsh, who had been previously been McLaren Group CEO, will keep his position as F1 team principal following Dennis' return.
If Whitmarsh is ousted, then Dennis could take control himself while former Mercedes boss Ross Brawn has also been mooted given his links to Honda – who will supply McLaren with engines from 2015.
An announcement is due next month, but who will be calling the shots when the teams arrive in Melbourne for the season opener?
