Mercedes debuts new 2014 F1 car at Silverstone

Mercedes completed a first day of running with a full F1 2014 specification car during a filming day at Silverstone on Friday.

"The new F1 W05, powered by the PU106A Hybrid Power Unit, opened a new era of Formula One at 14:21 hours this afternoon when it left the garage for the first time in cold but dry conditions at Silverstone,"read a brief statement from Mercedes. "Driven by Nico Rosberg, the car completed a total of 40 kilometres before dusk at 16:30 hours local time."

The team will now ready the F1 W05 for its public track debut in Jerez on Tuesday 28 January.

2008 F1 World Champion Lewis Hamilton is due to run on days one and three, while Rosberg will be out on days two and four.

Meanwhile, in a series of tweets related to the shakedown, Mercedes has also said it will have 'something special' for its fans later this evening - assumingly some teaser video footage...
