Jenson Button believes Eric Boullier's appointment as racing director at McLaren "does add to the team".

Boullier was confirmed in the newly-created role on Wednesday after leaving Lotus, and he will officially begin work at McLaren on Monday. Responding to the news at Jerez after his first day in the team's 2014 F1 car, Button said the arrival of Boullier would help strengthen McLaren ahead of the new season.

"I think it's good to have fresh ideas," Button said. "I think he does add to the team. A team will never be changed by one individual but I think he does add something and I think when the management structure is complete we will be in good shape.

"Hand on heart I really don't know who will be in the roles but I have an idea of the structure."

Asked if he knows Boullier well, Button replied: "Not really, I've obviously never worked with him.

"As a friend in the paddock, yes, I know him, but I don't know the way that he works. Obviously Lotus has had a very interesting and exciting last few years; last year was a very difficult year for the team with what was going on in the background and it did look like he controlled that issue reasonably well. So I am looking forward to working with him."
