Max Chilton says he is "really keyed up" for his second season in Formula One in 2014.

Having made his debut last season, Chilton showed impressive consistency to finish every race but was often outpaced by his team-mate Jules Bianchi. Having been comprehensively beaten over the course of the year, Chilton said he is ready to respond this season having often showed a clear improvement during his second year in a series.

"I feel really confident," Chilton said. "Over my career so far I have always done a lot better in my second year. I just kind of get to grips with things and then I can show my true performance. This year I'm really keyed up for it. I didn't take one break from the last race in Brazil; I was training every day apart from Christmas Day, I've lost more weight than I ever have so I'm fully ready and fighting fit to give it everything."

Chilton's confirmation at Marussia only came in the second week of January and he admitted that the presence of other drivers trying to take his seat had caused some delays.

Asked if it was waiting for agreement from his backers, Chilton replied: "It wasn't that side of it actually. It was just getting both sides happy. Obviously there were other people trying to come in but I think we knew we had it a long time ago ... It was just a case of signing on the dotted line."
