Jules Bianchi says the early signs from the 2014 Ferrari engine have been encouraging for Marussia.

After problems with its new car which Marussia worked on back at its factory, the team only appeared on the afternoon of the third day at Jerez. Bianchi drove on day four - completing just 25 laps - but when asked by Crash.net if he had been using his spare time to look at other Ferrari-powered teams he confirmed the signs from the engine were good.

"Of course we were looking at that and we saw that the Ferrari engine was behaving well so it was something positive for us," Bianchi said. "They did a great job with the engine. We don't really know where we are [competitively] but for sure it's a pretty good start."

Bianchi also admitted it should be easier for him working with Ferrari engineers as he has a good working knowledge of Ferrari as a member of its driver academy.

"Cosworth did a great job last year and it's difficult for me to say something about Ferrari now because we have only done one day of testing. For sure I know some people from Ferrari so of course it maybe makes it a bit easier but in terms of working it's the same."

And with such limited time in the car at Jerez, Bianchi said it will take him a little bit longer to get used to the new power units.

"It's strange because sometimes you can feel the turbo engaging and that changes the noise between the straights. It's something that we're not used to but it will be OK after one or two more days of testing."
