Red Bull ‘confident’ it has made progress – Ricciardo

Daniel Ricciardo believes Red Bull will be in much better shape at next week's Bahrain test due to the work it has done since Jerez
Daniel Ricciardo says Red Bull is “confident” it has made progress with its RB10 after a difficult start to pre-season testing.

The new car managed just 21 laps in total at the first test at Jerez, leaving it with the least mileage of all the teams present. Some of the issues which hit the team were attributed to Renault's new power unit, but team principal Christian Horner later admitted that there were a number of problems with the car.

However, Lotus has since used an updated power unit specification from Renault which “ran without any reliability issues” and Ricciardo says Red Bull is also making improvements to its car.

"We're confident we'll run a bit smoother [at the Bahrain tests]," Ricciardo told AAP. "But it's so complex this year, until we get laps under our belt we can't really be sure of anything. I saw the car yesterday and they've made quite a bit of progress, so hopefully we'll get a few more laps and kickstart our season."

Ricciardo also said he has already started learning from team-mate Sebastian Vettel despite his short time at the team so far, saying he could take in the way Vettel works outside of the car.

"Just by being around him at the track and at engineer briefings, even just hearing the way he communicates to team. I'll pick things up naturally from him and learn the ins and outs of how he works. Obviously he's not going to tell me how to drive around a corner - we're all capable of that now. But being behind the scenes with him is already good for me."

If there weren't spins like this, there would be nothing to talk about. It's beyond me why someone isn't allowed to answer a question truthfully without being slagged off for it. Just beyond me.
