Valtteri Bottas and Esteban Gutierrez are both set to take five-place grid penalties for the Australian Grand Prix.

Gutierrez complained of a gearbox issue early in FP3 and stopped on track before regaining drive and making it back to the pits. However, the problem ended his session and Sauber confirmed a gearbox change would be required, leading to the automatic five-place penalty.

At Williams, Bottas only completed two laps in the final practice session before remaining in the pits and the team later confirmed via Twitter that he too would require a new gearbox ahead of qualifying. The Williams pace was not seen in FP3, with Bottas not running and Felipe Massa failing to set a time on soft tyres.
