Alonso, Vettel and Magnussen cleared

15 March 2014

Fernando Alonso, Sebastian Vettel and Kevin Magnussen were all cleared after being investigated for incidents during qualifying for the Australian Grand Prix.

Alonso's investigation was for an alleged incident of impeding Esteban Gutierrez at the first corner during Q1, with Gutierrez going on to fail to progress in to the second part of qualifying. The Ferrari went on to qualify in fifth place.

Just ahead of Alonso on the grid is Magnussen, who holds on to fourth place after being investigated for an “alleged failure to slow for yellow flags in Turns 3 and 4”, with the flags waving due to Kimi Raikkonen hitting the wall on the inside of the track. Magnussen improved his best time on that lap – on a drying track – and as a result progressed in to Q3, ironically knocking out his team-mate Jenson Button in the process.

Vettel was under investigation for the same incident as Magnussen having started his lap later than the McLaren. However, despite setting a new personal best lap time Vettel was still unable to improve enough to make it in to the final part of qualifying.

In all three cases the stewards decided to take no further action.
