Malaysian GP: Ricciardo concerned about long runs

Daniel Ricciardo not happy with the long run pace in his Red Bull RB10, but adds the opening day of practice for the Malaysian GP was 'generally' good, despite reports of more fuel sensor issues.
Daniel Ricciardo has said there is definitely 'room for improvement' with his Red Bull RB10 when it comes to the long runs. His comments come after he set the seventh best time on Friday in practice for the Malaysian Grand Prix, the second round in the 2014 F1 World Championship.

“With the short run pace we learned quite a lot. This morning we were a little bit off the pace there. But I was pretty pleased with the progress we made. We are more or less there, where we expected to be,” the Aussie told reporters in Sepang, including Crash.net. “But the long run stuff - and I don't know how it was for Seb [Vettel – my team-mate] - but for me personally it could have been better. We have got some room for improvement there. But that is what tonight is for. We need to learn and try and get on with it.

“Generally it was a good day. We did a lot of laps and that is important. Reliability was good too and I was pleased with that.”

Ricciardo suffered quite a big off right at the end of FP2, when he made an error at Turn 11. However, he wasn't too concerned.

“It looked like there was a lot of grip out there but there were still quite a few low grip areas. Turn 11 is quite tricky. You exit out of Turns 9 and 10 and you always exit quite close to the kerb on the entry and I just got a little too close and went into the gravel. But better today than tomorrow,” he added.

Meanwhile, when quizzed on unconfirmed reports Red Bull had more fuel sensor problems today, he was of course stripped of second place in Australia last time out because of that, Ricciardo replied: “Somebody told me [about that]. I didn't even know about it. If we did have something, then the team is probably aware not to tell me anything like that.

“I just drive...”
