Sergio Perez says there is more to come from him at Force India after taking his first podium for the team in Bahrain.

In an action-packed race, Perez held off Daniel Ricciardo's charging Red Bull late on to finish third behind the two Mercedes. However, with the result coming in only his third race for Force India following his switch from McLaren, Perez says he feels he has still not fully settled in to the team and will be able to deliver even better performances when he does.

"I think there is more to come," Perez said when asked by Crash.net if he felt he was fully settled. "It's only my third race with the team. Also I signed with Force India very late so my adaptation has been a bit slow in that time. I'm getting to know everyone so to be able to get a podium in only my third race is really amazing."

Beating team-mate Nico Hulkenberg for the first time this season was one area where Perez is taking added confidence from his podium.

"I think Nico and myself were very close. He didn't make it in to Q3 so he had better tyres in the race which makes things even harder. I think it was the first weekend that I was able to have a good read on the car; in Australia and Malaysia I was always having issues with the brake-by-wire and the systems.

"So this is a really good start of the season basically for my side of the team and the car. Nico did a fantastic job, as did the whole team, and let's enjoy the moment. I'm testing on Wednesday so we've got to focus to try to keep this momentum going."

Perez also admitted he was hoping the two Mercedes cars would run in to trouble while fighting each other in Bahrain, potentially handing him victory.

"I couldn't see - they were too far away! But I heard that they had a hard battle so I prayed my best to get them out of the way but it didn't happen!"
