Ricciardo ‘trying to find the extremities’

8 April 2014

Daniel Ricciardo says Red Bull was “trying to find the extremities” of the RB10 during the first day of the Bahrain in-season test.

With Ricciardo running on both days at the Bahrain International Circuit, he was able to work on set-up items on Tuesday before running new parts on Wednesday. Having set the seventh fastest time – some 2.6s slower than Nico Rosberg's best – Ricciardo told Crash.net that the focus had been on pushing the boundaries of the car's performance.

“We missed a little bit of time this morning but we made up for it in the afternoon,” Ricciardo said. “I think I sat in the car for a good few hours there at the end and we got through some test items. It was more just testing stuff that we don't have time for on a race weekend or we don't have the confidence with some of these changes because we haven't really tested them before.

“It's just trying to find the extremities of the car and the balance. We did some long runs; I think we did three long runs with three set-up changes and got some good feedback from that so pretty good day testing-wise.”

And Ricciardo revealed that the running in hot conditions had allowed Red Bull to uncover some more of the car's potential.

“During the weekend we seemed to struggle a bit in P1 and P3 – the daytime sessions rather than the night – but the car definitely felt a lot better, particularly in the long runs now in the heat compared to what we did the other day. So I think we're making progress and at the same time we're learning a few things.”
