McLaren has confirmed it is in a dispute with Red Bull over the appointment of Dan Fallows.

Red Bull announced on Wednesday morning that it had signed Fallows as its new head of aerodynamics to replace Peter Prodromou, with the latter having been placed on gardening leave ahead of a switch to McLaren.

The issue surrounds Fallow's contract at McLaren - having been announced as a signing by Jonathan Neale in January - and speaking on Wednesday racing director Eric Boullier confirmed that the matter had become a legal issue.

"Dan Fallows has a legally binding contract with McLaren and the matter is now in the hands of our lawyers," Boullier said.

Fallows was previously an employee at Red Bull, but the team confirmed in its statement on Wednesday that he had left during 2013. Red Bull had been hoping to persuade Prodromou to remain with the team, but the announcement that it had appointed Fallows confirmed he was still set to leave.
