Chinese GP: Gutierrez to get new chassis for Shanghai

Esteban Gutierrez hoping for better results in China as he looks to put early season woes – including that incident with Pastor Maldonado in Bahrain – behind him
Esteban Gutierrez will use a new chassis in the 2014 F1 Chinese Grand Prix next weekend, Sauber has confirmed.

The news is not a surprise, as Gutierrez was involved in that spectacular crash in Bahrain, when Pastor Maldonado exited the pits and hit the Mexican's Ferrari-powered C33, sending it barrel-rolling across the track. The monocoque from that accident is now being repaired, the team added.

Gutierrez meanwhile is hoping for a change of fortune at the Shanghai International Circuit, just like team-mate Adrian Sutil and the whole Sauber team. Sauber has yet to score this year.

“I have nice memories of Shanghai from last year. It was probably one of the best race starts in my F1 career. I had a tough qualifying, but after the start and during the opening laps, I was able to overtake a lot of cars. Unfortunately, I couldn't finish the race,” Gutierrez recalled.

“Regarding the track, I really like it, especially the entry into Turn 1,” he added.

“I will travel to Shanghai early to adapt to the time difference and climate,” he continued. “Looking back to the last three races, my performance will help me to get the maximum out of the car, in both, qualifying and the race.

“With the updates on the car, I hope we can increase our level of competition so we can achieve better results,” he concluded.
