Montezemolo rings changes at Ferrari after poor start to F1 season

Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo has been making further changes at the team after Marco Mattiacci's appointment
Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo has been making further changes at the team after Marco Mattiacci's appointment.

Montezemolo has told Mattiacci and the team that it is time to “step up a gear in the work of the Gestione Sportiva” – for which Mattiacci is responsible – and as a result, an article on the Ferrari website says: 'These words have been transformed into actions, which have made the decision making process even more immediate, with the aim of optimising the work and the direction of development taken by the engineers in Maranello in real time'.

The article says Montezemolo has been taking a hands-on approach to work within the team on a day-to-day basis and has focused on “elimating intermediate stages and bureaucracy” to help the team improve more quickly.

'He has asked for an immediate overhaul and streamlining of internal processes, eliminating intermediate stages and bureaucracy in order to be more flexible and efficient when it comes to the decision making process,' the article read.

Ferrari also says it has requested its suppliers deliver an even quicker turnaround on new parts in order to help the team develop the F14 T as quickly as possible after starting the season well off the pace of Mercedes.

Fernando Alonso's third place in China was the team's first podium of the year, with Ferrari currently fourth in the constructors' championship.

Looks like Montezemolo has finally become aware what it takes to perform at the top in F1. Kind of slow in coming, I'd say. Now, he'd better be camped outside Ricciardo's home with a truckload of money. Alonso doesn't believe in you anymore, Luca.

I rather get the impression that Luca is being "leaned" on by the big chiefs at Fiat and is now spending time with the F1 team and neglecting his other responsibilities in the group in a last ditch effort to get Ferrari back to the top. I suspect that if this doesn't show results in the very near future, Luca himself could be the next head to roll. Corporate complexities, you seldom get the truth in the press.
