Simona de Silvestro admits she is aiming to prove to Sauber she is good enough to get a race seat with the team.

Fresh from her two-day test at Fiorano between the Chinese and Spanish grands prix, de Silvestro spoke to the media in Barcelona about her plans for the near future and how she hopes to progress. Highlighting that her next test in an old F1 car will see her run on a quicker circuit, de Silvestro said she felt Sauber had offered her a realistic chance of progressing to a race seat.

"The next step right now is my next test in the C31 in Valencia - I think it's on June 25th, 26th and 27th - which will be kind of a step more because the track is a little bit more challenging, a little bit higher speed," de Silvestro said.

"Where I see myself in the future for sure I see myself on the grid, that's my goal. That's why I chose to come here. For me, Formula One had to be the right opportunity to do it because I had a pretty good career going in the US, and that's what Sauber gave me right now. Right now everything is in my hands, I just have to prove that I can be really fast in a race car and hopefully it will happen."

And de Silvestro also said she may take part in some Friday practice sessions this season, though the team has yet to confirm any such plans.

"I think there are possibilities. Right now all the goals we have set so far have been achieved, so hopefully in the near future that will happen."
