Jenson Button says Kevin Magnussen was just quicker than him during qualifying for the Monaco Grand Prix.

While Button dropped out of the session in Q2, Magnussen progressed through to Q3 and will start the race from

"Kevin drove the car quicker, basically, and did a better job," Button said. "Q1 I felt reasonably happy with the car and the pace as well but Q2 started with a bit of traffic on my first lap and then I just didn't get a lap together after that so truthfully I just didn't get the lap and that was it really."

Magnussen himself believes he is starting to find his feet in F1 but expects to remain closely matched with Button throughout the year.

"I think the last two races have gone pretty well and I'm learning a lot about the car and the set-up and what I like from the car," Magnussen said. "But it's going to keep going up and down all season between myself and Jenson so hopefully we can continue to push each other and I can continue learning as I have done so far.

"I'm happy with qualifying today and Barcelona I was happy as well; we had a problem in qualifying but other than that I was quite happy so I will just keep learning."
