Lewis Hamilton set the pace in final practice for the Canadian Grand Prix as he put half a second between himself and team-mate Nico Rosberg.

On the soft tyre runs, Hamilton completed a late lap of 1:15.610 which put him half a second clear of Rosberg and a second ahead of the rest of the field. On the supersofts, neither Mercedes was able to improve but Felipe Massa registered a 1:16.086 to finish the session second behind Hamilton and less than 0.04s clear of Rosberg.

Rosberg was third ahead of Fernando Alonso - who ran off-track attempting to improve on his first time on supersofts - with Daniel Ricciardo in fifth and Kimi Raikkonen in sixth the only other drivers to get within a second of Hamilton's time.

The signs from FP3 suggest that qualifying will be a busy affair as drivers need more than one lap to get the best out of the supersoft tyre, with only small gains being found by the majority of teams on their first laps on the option compound.

There were a number of incidents as drivers pushed on a track low on grip, with Esteban Gutierrez paying the biggest price as he lost control at Turn 3. The Sauber swapped ends before Gutierrez was able to try and take Turn 4, seeing him spin in to the wall on the outside of the corner and damaging the left rear having been launched slightly off the exit kerb.

Kevin Magnussen had a high-speed spin at Turn 2, taking too much speed in to Turn 1 and losing the car on the grass before fortunately stopping short of the tyre barrier. After that, Marcus Ericsson, Romain Grosjean and Sergio Perez all spun at Turn 8 but were able to continue without any damage.

Gutierrez's spin ensured he propped up the timesheets at the end of the hour-long session, with Kamui Kobayashi ahead of him as the Caterham stopped with an issue at Turn 10 in the final ten minutes.
