Silverstone confirms Fans’ Thursday plans

Kaiser Chiefs concert the highlight as Silverstone opens up F1 pit-lane and hosts Sky Sports F1 show as curtain-raiser to 50th grand prix.

Silverstone has finally revealed its plans for the proposed 'Fans Thursday' event that will kick-off the 2014 British Grand Prix weekend over 3-6 July).

The day, which forms part of the many celebrations organised to commemorate the circuit's 50th grand prix, will give fans a number of added attractions ahead of what could be a pivotal race in the 2014 championship battle.

For the first time ever, Silverstone has been given permission to open the F1 pit-lane to fans on the Thursday, with all three-day ticketholders gaining unprecedented access and views into the garages, where teams will be busy preparing for the weekend ahead. There will be two pit walk sessions – between 10:00-12:00hrs and 15:15-18:00hrs – as the venues opens between Club and Abbey corners.

Following the afternoon session, Sky Sports F1 will be broadcasting a live edition of The F1 Show from the start-finish straight and, again, three-day ticket holders will have the opportunity to be part of the programme, watching 'live' from the International Pits Straight Grandstand, where presenters David Croft, Natalie Pinkham and a host of special guests will be roving during the one-hour edition.

For fans with a Kaiser Chiefs ticket, the entertainment will culminate in a live concert, as the band, which recently enjoyed success with their number one album Education, Education, Education and War performing on a specially-built stage in the centre of the circuit as the first date of a UK summer tour. Tickets for the concert, priced at £37.50 each, are available from Silverstone.

“The British Grand Prix has become a four-day festival and we are delighted to welcome Kaiser Chiefs to Silverstone to kick off the event,” Silverstone Circuits' Richard Phillips said, “Fans' Thursday is a great opportunity to soak up the atmosphere as the anticipation builds and we get closer to race day and Silverstone's 50th Grand Prix.”

Confirmation of Thursday's plans follow on from the drip-feed of details regarding the celebratory parades planned for the grand prix weekend. Rubens Barrichello is the latest driver added to the line-up, with the Brazilian - British Grand Prix winner in 2003 – schedule to drive a Williams FW07b on all three days of the meeting. The car is the successor to the FW07, which made its debut midway through the 1979 season and gave Williams its first F1 victory courtesy of Clay Regazzoni.

“Silverstone means a lot to me, not just for my win in 2003, but from the times I spent there in my British F3 and F3000 days,” the Brazilian commented, “During that time, the layout of the circuit changed. I went through a lot there and I have always considered Silverstone my second home. Of course, my win in 2003 was one of my best and a really special moment, so I'm delighted to be taking part in Silverstone's celebrations for its 50th Grand Prix.”

Other famous already confirmed for the parades include Sir Jackie Stewart (Matra MS80), David Brabham (Cooper Climax T53), Dario Franchitti (Lotus 25) and Adrian Newey (March 711).
