F1 British Grand Prix: Raikkonen may miss test after crash

Kimi Raikkonen has escaped serious injury following a heavy crash at the start of the British Grand Prix, but may miss this week's in-season test.

Having run wide at Aintree, Raikkonen lost control of his Ferrari when he hit a bump trying to rejoin the track, causing him to spear in to the barriers at high speed. The impact measured 47G, but Raikkonen was able to limp away from the accident with pain in his ankle and hip.

Raikkonen was checked over at the medical centre and given the all clear from doctors that he had no serious injuries, but team principal Marco Mattiacci admitted he was unsure if Raikkonen would be fit to take part in the Silverstone test which takes place on Tuesday and Wednesday.

“Kimi is okay,” Mattiacci said. “We checked several times. I think we are taking a decision about what to do with the test. We still need to take a decision; I want to be 100% sure that he is super fine but there is no major issue at the moment.”

Raikkonen was due to share driving duties with Pedro de la Rosa at Silverstone.
