Britain F1 in-season test: Bianchi replaces Raikkonen at Ferrari for test

Ferrari has confirmed that Kimi Raikkonen will miss the Silverstone in-season test following his heavy crash in the British Grand Prix.

Raikkonen hit the wall on the Wellington Straight at a force measured at 47G after losing control of his car when trying to rejoin the track at high speed. While he limped away from the car, Raikkonen was cleared of any serious injury following the incident and team principal Marco Mattiacci said the team would wait to see if he could still take part in this week's test.

Now Ferrari has confirmed that Raikkonen will miss the test in order to rest ahead of the German Grand Prix, with Marussia's Jules Bianchi set to fill in for him. Bianchi – who is also a member of the Ferrari Driver Academy – will test on Wednesday as he is driving for Marussia on Tuesday.

As a result, Pedro de la Rosa will drive on the opening day of the test for Ferrari, when the team is conducting tyre testing for Pirelli.

rob01: i still think Kimi should be penalized for trying to re enter the race track under full throttle and nearly kill those around him.
It was fine, what it was designed for and Kimi used it, just off that there was a big bump just as the run off joined the track....... shouldn't have been there.

wow. seems to be a bit of hate going on around kimi now! there was nothing wrong with kimi rejoining the track as he was coming back on a very narrow angle, with adequate room. the problem was that his car hit a drainage gulley and was thrown in the air. after that, he was just a passenger. it was unfortunate, but if anyone thinks that it was deliberate and merited a penalty, they need their head examined. back to topic. it is good to see bianchi getting aferari test, but unfortunately the car is so poor, that it will be hard to really judge him.
