Pastor Maldonado says having an upgraded power unit during testing at Silverstone felt "like a double engine".

While Renault updated the power unit in Austria, Maldonado had issues and had to use the old specification compared to team-mate Romain Grosjean. With a similar problem in Silverstone, Maldonado revealed he was down on power in the race but was delighted when he finally got to run the new version during the in-season test.

"It's like a double engine now!" Maldonado said. "It's much quicker, much more powerful ... after the race we were checking the data and we were more than 60 horsepower less than normal. So we were losing a lot."

And asked if he would have the updated power unit at the German Grand Prix, Maldonado replied: "In the next race yes, because we don't have any [old engines]. We will take the new one."

However, even with the new engine, Maldonado admits he is expecting to struggle at Hockenheim next weekend.

"I think it's going to be a very tough weekend for the team and for us. We need to just keep working and try to deliver our best. The surface is very smooth, hopefully the temperature will be hot. There is so many straights and we don't have good power to fight so there will be a lot of penalty in terms of power. But anyway I think we can do a good race."
