Bottas proud of Williams progress

19 July 2014

Valtteri Bottas says he is proud to see the progress Williams is making after qualifying on the front row for the second time in three races.

Having qualified second behind team-mate Felipe Massa in Austria, Bottas will again start from second place in the German Grand Prix with Nico Rosberg on pole position. Bottas was a part of the team that struggled in 2013 but said he is enjoying the resurgence this season but warned Williams should not get carried away with its qualifying performance.

“I feel really happy to be part of this team that is going in the right way,” Bottas said. “Again a strong result for us as a team, so it's good to be part of this. Still we have to start really focusing on getting better and better with every race. There are no points for today, so we need to focus on tomorrow again and try to do the perfect job if we can and get the maximum points available.”

While Bottas was not happy with the balance of his car on Friday he said Williams was confident it could rectify the issues overnight and was not surprised to see the improvement that was delivered on Saturday.

“We knew after Friday that we didn't really have to worry. We had work to do to improve the car, which we managed to do and improve the car. But I think maybe sometimes some of the other teams are doing some more qualifying laps in practice.”
