Lotus has confirmed Pastor Maldonado will continue to drive for the team in 2015 but remains guarded over who the second driver will be.

Maldonado joined the team from Williams over the winter, bringing with him substantial backing from Venezuelan oil company PDVSA. Now Lotus has confirmed that it has taken up an option on another year for next season, with team principal Gerard Lopez saying there is more to come from the partnership.

"I don't want to give too much away, but as it's half way through the season I can confirm 50% of our driver line-up for 2015 as Pastor is with us for next year," Lopez said. "Despite the difficulties we've had so far this season, he recognises our true potential as a team and we recognise his true potential as a driver. We will achieve great things together."

Romain Grosjean's future remains uncertain but Lopez said the team doesn't need to prove to Grosjean that it can deliver a race-winning car.

"Romain is well aware of the prowess of Enstone after having finished on the podium for the past two years in one of our cars. Pastor was new to the team for this year but he recognises the potential of the squad."

Lotus is set to be powered by Mercedes engines in 2015 after agreeing a deal to switch from current supplier Renault.
