A week after Germany reigned supreme in the FIFA World Cup, its spectacular summer of sport continued at Hockenheim as Nico Rosberg swept to a dominant German Grand Prix victory.

Another measure of Mercedes' current dominance in F1, Rosberg led from the opening corner and simply extended his lead all the way to the chequered flag, in doing so extending his advantage at the top of the F1 standings.

However, if Rosberg's effort was a display in precision driving, he still missed out on the fun wheel-to-wheel racing behind him

, not least from Lewis Hamilton as he hauled his Mercedes from 20th all the way to third place with some eye-catching overtaking manoeuvres.

He wasn't the only one to impress over the course of the day though, with Daniel Ricciardo proving an entertaining frustration for Fernando Alonso as he doggedly attempted to keep the fresher Ferrari behind him, while Kevin Magnussen was impressive in his drive back to the points after his first corner tangle with Felipe Massa.

Then there was Valtteri Bottas, who consolidated his status as a potential title challenger in the future with his third straight podium, including an excellent drive on waning tyres in the closing stages to keep Hamilton at arm's length.
