Hamilton: So slow it’s boring

25 July 2014

Lewis Hamilton says he had to drive so slowly in order to look after his tyres during practice for the Hungarian Grand Prix that it was “a bit boring”.

The Hungaroring circuit traditionally sees a large amount of track evolution from FP1 through to the race, with the track often dusty at the start of the weekend and therefore low on grip. Hamilton said the lack of grip had been particularly noticeable during Friday practice and hopes that it will improve significantly by the time of the race.

“The tyres don't feel very good here,” Hamilton said. “There was very, very poor grip out there today. I don't know if that's the tyres or the track, but it was pretty bad.

“You're driving so slow to look after the tyres it feels like you have to slow down too much now to the point that it's a bit boring.”

And Hamilton agreed with team-mate Rosberg that pole position was likely to be even more important than usual on Saturday.

“Particularly with the grip level so low today, maybe it will get better tomorrow but it is going to be important to get position because following is going to be very hard.”

When asked about radio messages which carried complaints about his brakes, Hamilton said there was no big issue.

“We had some settings that we had to change with the brakes but it's OK.”
