Toro Rosso team principal Franz Tost says Daniil Kvyat is "doing a fantastic job" in his rookie season so far.

Kvyat was a somewhat surprise choice to replace Daniel Ricciardo at Toro Rosso this year as he was promoted straight from GP3, beating the much-fancied Antonio Felix da Costa to the seat. However, Red Bull's decision has been justified by a string of strong performances, with Kvyat scoring points on four occasions so far this year.

While Hungary wasn't his strongest weekend, Kvyat has been praised by his team principal for how quickly he has adapted to F1 despite a tough pre-season for Toro Rosso.

"He is doing a very good job," Tost told the official Toro Rosso website. "Taking into consideration how little mileage he was able to do before the season, he is driving very well, showing that he has natural speed. Equally importantly, he has had no accidents, nor has he made any mistakes. He is doing a fantastic job."

And Tost has also been pleased with team-mate Jean-Eric Vergne, saying he can develop and improve even further despite being in his third season with the team.

"He has suffered a lot with reliability issues, but when his car was running fine, he delivered good performances. Thanks to his experience he makes an important contribution to the team's technical development and I'm convinced that there is still more to come from him."
