Kobayashi keeping options open

Kamui Kobayashi says he is keeping his options open after being told he may not last the season at Caterham
Kamui Kobayashi says he is keeping his options open after being told he may not last the season at Caterham.

In an exclusive interview with Crash.net, Kobayashi revealed that he had been warned by Caterham that there is a chance he will be replaced before the end of the year. Looking ahead to 2015, Kobayashi said he would be willing to stay with the team if he sees out the current season but admits his main priority is staying in F1 after a year out in 2013.

“Yeah of course I'm very open,” Kobayashi said. “Currently I don't have any contract for next year… I'm looking at everything.”

But Kobayashi concedes he may have to wait for any decisions to be made from the top teams before he can decide his own future.

“Of course I want to be in Formula One, that's the biggest priority. Then of course I want to fight in the points and I want to fight higher in the championship.

“Actually there's not much movement this time because the top teams are not really announcing anything, they look like they could be the same ... Maybe [will have to make a late decision]. Of course we have to look already but you can't decide straight away like that.”

It would be foolish to get rid of this guy, he's driving for free and brings a hell of a lot more to the team than a rookie would. If they actually bring some significant updates to the car, he'll be the one to maximize the performance.
