Massa: Williams F1 surprised by recovery

Felipe Massa says Williams has surprised even itself at how strong its F1 car has been this season after a poor 2013
Felipe Massa says Williams has surprised even itself at how strong it has been this season after a poor 2013.

Last season Williams managed just five points all year, while Massa was scoring 112 alone as Ferrari amassed 354 points on its way to third place in the constructors' championship. However, this year sees Williams with the quicker car – though it dropped to fourth behind Ferrari at the Hungarian Grand Prix – and Massa admitted both he and the team has been surprised just how well it is performing.

“I think everybody is surprised,” Massa said. “Everybody is surprised that the car is very competitive, but I think what we did from the winter until now was also very good. It was a very good job from everybody on the technical side, also the information we give about how the car is and what we need to improve was completely inside the team. We worked to improve that and I think we did a very good improvement.

“There is still a lot to do but I think everything is going in a really good way, a good direction in terms of development and I hope we can do more between now and the last race.”

While Massa says he was expecting Williams to have a more competitive car than last season, he said the current level of performance exceeds expectations and takes the pressure off for the rest of the year.

“For sure I expected to have a much better car than they had in the past – this is clear – but for sure it was also a little bit too much to think that we could think in the top three of the championship, and we can.

“I think that's really good, so let's try to do a much better second part of the season that can also be a lot more relaxed in terms of points with the teams behind and just working to improve compared to the teams in front.”

EdOz: So basically this is 99% the same article and 'news' as the one with Bottas a couple of days ago
You're quite right there. It's expected as not much news being generated during this "summer break". There were perhaps at least 3 stories on Hamilton - reliability, and now we're seeing stories on the wheeling dealing old (I quote) "idiot" dawg Bernie. Well he is guilty right, when you "settle out of court".
