Jules Bianchi says Marussia does not expect it will retain its current ninth position in the 2014 Formula 1 Constructors' standings, insisting the team is simply focused on ensuring it finishes ahead of main rivals Caterham.

A historic ninth place finish in the Monaco Grand Prix saw Bianchi notch up the team's first-ever points, either in its former Virgin Racing guise or its current Marussia iteration.

That result has put Marussia in prime position to secure the lucrative tenth place in the standings over long-time rivals Caterham, the result has also had the effect of placing it ahead of the struggling Sauber team, which is yet to score points.

However, Bianchi insists Marussia simply has its sights set firmly on tenth place based on the assumption that Sauber will reach the top ten before the year is out.

"We know that if we finish in ninth it's because we've had a bit of luck," he told Crash.net. "We are still slower than Sauber and we struggle to catch them, so it is not easy.

"I am sure at one point they will score points so we aren't really focused on Sauber, we are focused more on Caterham trying to be in front of them at the end of the season, that will be the target for sure."
