Felipe Massa says Williams should be focusing on Red Bull and Ferrari rather than trying to beat Mercedes at the Belgian Grand Prix.

Spa-Francorchamps represents a circuit which is likely to suit Williams, but Friday practice saw Mercedes setting the pace once again and Fernando Alonso the nearest challenger. Asked if he felt this race is Williams' best chance of a victory this season, Massa replied: "Impossible to answer.

"It's not the first time I was fourth on Friday and maybe I think in Austria we were stronger than here. We'll see against the others. Mercedes is a little bit far away so it will not really be in the plan to be on the same pace but you never know what can happen in the race so we need to wait and see.

"I think it would be good to be in front of Red Bull and to have some advantage compared to them. Also Ferrari; Ferrari was quick today so you never know, maybe they can have a quick pace and a good race as well so we need to be in good shape to fight with them."

While not expecting to challenge Mercedes, Massa said his overall feeling was a positive one after Friday's running.

"I think it was a good Friday. Definitely we saw a very strong Mercedes, this is clear. We saw it at every race, so I don't think it will change in this track and I don't think it will change anywhere. Still, it was a positive day so it was interesting to understand the car today.

"I saw some degradation on the tyres as well so it will not be easy to choose the right tyres at the right time of the race for the strategy. But I think it was positive. I hope we can have another very positive Saturday and especially Sunday."
