Lewis Hamilton says the F1 title race is "far from over" despite having dropped 29 points behind team-mate Nico Rosberg.

Following a dramatic Belgian Grand Prix weekend, Rosberg now has the biggest lead he has enjoyed all season having finished second at Spa while Hamilton retired from the race. This weekend's Italian Grand Prix at Monza provides Hamilton with his first chance to start to reduce the deficit, and he says that will be his main aim during what he describes as a "special" grand prix.

"The Italian Grand Prix is always a special one for me in terms of the memories I have there - going right back to my early career," Hamilton said. "The karting championships used to race in Italy quite often and it's also where I met Nico - so that's where our rivalry really began.

"Monza is such a historic circuit and to win there is a really special feeling. I had that experience in 2012 and I'd love to do it again in 2014.

"Last season we really struggled at this race - but we have a fantastic car this year and I'm confident we can make up for it this time around. One thing I always love about racing at Monza is the fans. They're just so passionate about motorsport and the buzz around the place is unbelievable - particularly on the podium. Hopefully we can reward them with some exciting racing.

"My aim for the weekend, of course, is to claw back the gap in the Drivers' Championship. It's as big as it's been all season so I've got a lot of work ahead of me - but anything can happen in this sport. I won't give up until the flag drops in Abu Dhabi and there's still plenty of points to be won before then, so it's far from over yet."

It is NOT "postponing the contract signing".

Mercedes' Toto Wolff says contract discussions with Lewis Hamilton have been put on hold until the end of the season.

Hamilton said before the mid-season break that he was keen to sit down and talk about his future at Mercedes after Nico Rosberg signed a new deal, with Wolff confirming that negotiations had started about extending Hamilton's stay beyond his current contract which runs out at the end of 2015.

However, speaking before the incident which saw Hamilton and Rosberg collide in the Belgian Grand Prix and the subsequent fallout, Wolff said both parties had agreed to delay the talks while also not opening discussions with anyone else.

"We've been talking to each other every day,” Wolff said. "But at this stage things are very intense and you have to stay concentrated on the season. But one thing is for sure, we are not going to talk to anybody else before having a very clear situation about how we can continue to work with Lewis.

"This is what we have said to each other, that we have no interest in having any other conversation with any other driver. We are not having any, and Lewis is not having any discussion with any other team, so this is why we trust each other.

"We feel at the moment we need to be concentrated on the championship and not get involved in contractual discussions, intense discussions, because it is something which is one and a half years away from of us."
