F1 Italian Grand Prix: Vettel coy on McLaren move rumours

F1 champion Sebastian Vettel plays down rumours of a possible move to McLaren-Honda from 2016 without ruling it out entirely...
Sebastian Vettel has acknowledged McLaren's interest in signing him for its 2016 F1 campaign, but insists he is only committed to getting himself and Red Bull Racing back into a winning position for the time being.

McLaren, who will enter into a partnership with returning engine-supplier Honda next season, has been public about its desire to lure either one or both of multiple F1 champions Vettel and Fernando Alonso for its dubbed 'dream team' from 2016, but neither driver has expressed a vocal intention to put pen to paper as yet.

Indeed, with Alonso insisting he wants to stay with Ferrari, Vettel was also evasive about the rumours when asked ahead of the Italian Grand Prix, the German saying he is choosing to focus on the short-term goals of getting back to winning ways at Red Bull.

“There has been a lot of talk. I heard in Spa that I had signed for $150 million for three years. I was asking where the pen was but nobody came back to me,” he joked.

“I think it is normal to have talks but it doesn't change what we do on a regular day basis. We are not yet where we want to be, particularly on my side, so there is a lot of work which is my main attention.

Refuting the idea that switching to McLaren will give him renewed motivation, though Vettel doesn't rule out a change in the future, he insists he is happy with Red Bull Racing.

“I think I have plenty of challenge here. I am not yet where I want to be, so there is plenty of stuff to do and my situation hasn't changed, I am happy where I am. You never know what happens in the future, as I said right now I don't feel the need to do anything different.”
