Sir Frank Williams says he has “the highest regard” for Felipe Massa because he has learned how to stand up to Fernando Alonso.
Massa and team-mate Valtteri Bottas were confirmed as remaining at Williams for the 2015 season on Sunday morning at Monza
, with Massa having only joined at the start of this year. Speaking about Massa's credentials, Williams said his years alongside Alonso at Ferrari had earned him a lot of respect.
“Felipe is a very experienced driver,” Williams said. “He has learned how to stand up to Ferdy – my hero in Formula One – and he's given Ferdy a hard time in the past so I've got the highest regard for our young man Felipe.”
And Massa himself said he is focused on delivering success for Williams this season which will benefit it next year.
“Definitely it's fantastic to be part of the Williams team,” Massa said. “It's an amazing team, fantastic people and it's very much like a family as well so I'm really enjoying working with all of the guys. It will be fantastic also to do another great championship next year, so we are preparing for that and making this team stronger and stronger, bigger and bigger.
“I'm sure we can do a very good job on the second part of the championship this year, fighting with top teams. I think this is looking very good compared to how it was last year and also very good preparation for next year. So first of all we'll concentrate on doing the best we can today but also until the last race of the championship to be as high as we can in the constructors' championship because this team deserves it.”
