Romain Grosjean has added his respects to those already paid to erstwhile head of French oil company Total, Christophe de Margerie, who died in a freak 'plane crash earlier this week.

de Margerie and Total played - and continue to play - a significant role in Grosjean's rise to F1, and the French driver has frequently admitted that is unlikely to he would have made it to the top flight without their unwavering support.

"He was one of those men that you meet very rarely in a lifetime," Grosjean reflected, "I knew him for many years and he believed in me and helped me to achieve my motorsport dream. It was such a tragic accident and my thoughts are with his family, as well as the families of the other victims of the plane crash."

Ironically, with Lotus' impending switch to Mercedes power for 2015, it is likely that the team's oil supplier may switch away from Total.
