Kimi Raikkonen believes Ferrari "can make a big leap" with its new car for the 2015 season.

Ferrari has failed to win a race so far this year, with Raikkonen himself yet to finish on the podium in his second stint with the team. However, when asked how development of the 2015 car is coming along, Raikkonen said he is confident the team will make a big step forward in terms of competitiveness.

"I have 100% trust in the team and the people that build the cars, run the team and all the mechanics," Raikkonen said. "It's just people speaking and I can promise you that they are not the people who are designing the car or in the wind tunnel. I'm sure we can have a good package. Is it good enough? Time will tell, but we have a lot of work to do and we learned a lot from this year.

"We don't expect to suddenly jump to the front and be winning the races but I'm sure we can make a big leap and be up there fighting and improving things. But like I said, with the new cars there can always be a lot of talk but when we put it on the circuit at the first test and do the first laps then we really know where we are and how it feels.

"I think we know where the issues are and the people are smart enough to make good decisions and fix those issues. There are some limits to what we can do and what we cannot do which obviously will limit us a little bit but for sure we will improve."

And Raikkonen said despite this season's struggles he is happy he opted to return to Ferrari having won races at Lotus.

"For sure I made the 100 percent right decision. Obviously the results haven't been what I wanted or the team wants but that's how it goes. We improved from where we started and there's been some better moments. But it's not easy to fix some issues and get things exactly as you want and then you end up having a small thing here and small thing there and the end result is paying a big price for it.

"But I'm happy to be here. Finishing anything after first place I'd rather be in a Ferrari than any other teams. So for sure I made the right decision."
