Lewis Hamilton set the fastest time of final practice for the United States Grand Prix as team-mate Nico Rosberg struggled with braking issues.
With the Mercedes dominance continuing in FP3, Hamilton set a best time of 1:37.107 to beat Rosberg by almost 0.9s on the soft tyre runs. Rosberg had trouble in the middle of the session which was attributed to a glazed brake disc which was causing him to run wide on a number of occasions, and he was unable to get near Hamilton's time after the problem was fixed.
Felipe Massa and Valtteri Bottas marked Williams out as the second quickest team by finishing third and fourth respectively, although both cars were over a second slower than Hamilton. Bottas had a margin of exactly 0.3s over Fernando Alonso in fifth, while Daniel Ricciardo was sixth for Red Bull, 1.8s slower than Hamilton.
Nico Hulkenberg was seventh fastest ahead of Adrian Sutil who had an encouraging session to post the eighth quickest time for Red Bull. Kimi Raikkonen and Jenson Button rounded out the top ten as Hamilton enjoyed a two second advantage over half the field.
Hamilton's session was not without issue, however, with the championship leader losing the rear of his car at the turn-in point for Turn 12 and spinning off in to the run-off area. Massa almost suffered the same fate after a lock-up in to the same corner, while Bottas also saw a lap on soft tyres ruined by outbraking himself in to Turn 1.
Another driver to hit trouble was Jean-Eric Vergne, who suffered a power unit issues and completed just 12 laps, finishing over four seconds off the pace down in 17th. Once again it was Sebastian Vettel who finished the session slowest overall as he continued to focus on race pace with a power unit penalty forcing him to start from the pit lane.
