Jean-Eric Vergne was handed a five second time penalty following the United States Grand Prix.

Late in the race, Vergne dived down the inside of Romain Grosjean in to Turn 1, making contact with the Lotus and then causing Grosjean to run wide on the exit of the corner. The stewards decided that Vergne had deliberately forced Grosjean off track and handed him a five second time penalty as a result.

"The driver of car 25 [Vergne] is considered to be predominantly at fault for the contact with car 8 [Grosjean] in turn 1 and the consequent forcing of car 8 of the track," the stewards' decision read.
