F1 Brazilian Grand Prix: Magnussen understands McLaren 2015 driver delay

Kevin Magnussen not annoyed by McLaren uncertainty, says he understand why the team has yet to confirm its drivers for F1 2015
Kevin Magnussen says he understands why McLaren has yet to confirm its driver line-up for 2015 and does not feel let down, even if his future does remain uncertain.

Magnussen, who has made his F1 debut this season with the team, is one of a number of drivers under consideration for next season, along with current team-mate Jenson Button, as well as Fernando Alonso and even possibly Romain Grosjean, who is well known to McLaren sporting director, Eric Boullier.

“They are not doing that to annoy me,” Magnussen replied when asked if he feels let down by McLaren's indecision. “They have a reason for it. So, no, because I understand why I have not been told yet. Some things are still not sorted out from their side and if they could let me know, they would.

“I can only wait and just see what happens. I am not planning anything else. I am not looking for anything else. I am planning as if I am here next year. That is what I am working for and doing my best to get to.”

Magnussen has scored 53 points this season and is currently tenth in the Drivers' Championship, his best result coming at the season opener in Australia, when he was second.

So has he done enough to book a seat for 2015?

“I can only say I hope so. I feel like I have learned a lot and improved a lot in many areas. I am sure I have a lot more potential even from where I am now,” added the Dane, who finished eighth in Austin last weekend, his eleventh points result of the year.

Meanwhile, he said McLaren's recent fluctuating form from Russia to the USA was mainly to do with the tyres.

“A lot of it is down to the tyres, making the tyres work. It seems sometimes we get it better than others,” he confirmed. “Sochi was an example of where we got the tyres working very well and I think Austin was an example where we didn't. It is a little bit hard to understand but we are trying our best.”
