Daniel Ricciardo says the "early signs are good" for Red Bull following Friday practice for the Brazilian Grand Prix and he believes they are the closest they have been to Mercedes for a while.

Ricciardo was tenth quickest in FP1 this morning, before improving and ending the day fourth overall in FP2, 0.260 seconds off Kimi Raikkonen in third and 0.833 seconds off the pace setting Mercedes of Nico Rosberg.

"The early signs are good. It is sort of our best long runs, even though they weren't very long [due to the red flags]. But like for like it looked like we were pretty good today for a Friday. We feel we are normally playing a bit of catch up on Mercedes and I think we are, but are still closer than we have been for the last few races. That is promising," he told reporters at Interlagos.
