F1 Brazilian Grand Prix: Rosberg ‘needs to make it happen now’

Mercedes F1 driver Nico Rosberg keen to capitalise on his hard earned Brazilian GP pole, says he is “good to go for tomorrow”
Nico Rosberg says he “needs to make it happen now” in the race after qualifying on pole for the 2014 F1 Brazilian Grand Prix.

Rosberg beat team-mate and championship rival Lewis Hamilton by just 0.033 seconds in the top-ten shootout at Interlagos to seal his 14th career pole and his 10th of the season.

However, after failing to capitalise on pole in Austin last weekend, the German is keen to 'cash in', especially as he has been dominant so far in Sao Paulo, topping all three practice sessions and all three parts of qualifying.

“[It is] a perfect job – [but] only if it works out tomorrow, unfortunately,” Rosberg said. “Up to now it has been going well and it is the best place to be tomorrow, but of course I need to make it happen in the race. Unlike in Austin for example.”

“I am sure that tomorrow is going to be great to watch. Being on the clean side of the grid and it is not such a long run down to Turn 1 that should definitely be helpful [for me],” he continued.

“I understand what I need to improve. In Austin I didn't find my rhythm in the race and I understand that and we have looked at it. I am confident I can improve that for tomorrow, but it is a different situation here too.

“It is a different track and here we have done more long runs. We even did a long run this morning, which will help, as it is exactly the same conditions as we expect tomorrow.

"All those things should be very helpful.”

Asked about the pressure, given he now has to win both final races to take the title if Hamilton also finishes second, Rosberg insisted there is no change.

“The pressure is pretty much similar,” he replied. “The adrenalin is there and the tension and the excitement. It has not changed that much. I am just here and going for it and pushing myself to stay optimistic all the time and naturally I am optimistic also.

“I will learn from Austin. I know what I need to do better.

"From that point of view I am good to go tomorrow.”
