Nico Rosberg set the fastest time of FP3 for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix as team-mate Lewis Hamilton looked a little ragged ahead of qualifying.
On the supersoft tyre runs, Rosberg went a second clear of the rest of the field and Hamilton was unable to match his title rival as errors in the final sector saw him register a time 0.4s adrift. Hamilton did improve on a second lap, but by then his tyres were past their best and he ended the session 0.369s down on Rosberg's time of 1:41.424.
Of some relief to Hamilton will be the gap to the rest of the field, with Felipe Massa third fastest for Williams but 1.005s off the pace as Mercedes looks set to dominate qualifying.
Massa was 0.2s quicker than Fernando Alonso, but the true comparative pace of the Ferrari was not seen as Alonso's session ended after eight laps, with his supersoft run taking place much earlier than the rest of the field.
Sebastian Vettel was fifth fastest ahead of Jenson Button who recovered from a lack of running on Friday to set the sixth quickest time. Daniel Ricciardo, Valtteri Bottas and Daniil Kvyat were all within 0.4s of Massa in third place in a close session behind the Mercedes', while Kimi Raikkonen rounded out the top ten.
With five cars dropping out in Q1 and Q2 due to the return of Caterham, it looks set to be a scrap between the Lotus and Sauber drivers to avoid the drop in the first part of qualifying as Esteban Gutierrez in 15th headed the two Lotus' and and team-mate Adrian Sutil.
At Caterham, Will Stevens continued to improve relative to Kamui Kobayashi as he got within 0.9s of his team-mate, ending the session 4.5s off the pace.
