McLaren racing director Eric Boullier says the team's delayed start to the Abu Dhabi F1 test is a result of some checks with electrical issues.

The interim MP4-29H/1X1 was due to run in Abu Dhab on Tuesday and Wednesday, but did not appear on track during the first four hours of testing. Boullier explained that the team was being cautious with and potential problems it could have with the power unit and will not rush to get the car out on track.

"We are triple-checking some electrical issues we may have with the ground, particularly, which is a part we have built as McLaren and we just want to be very careful," Boullier said. "The minimum is you may burn the harness but you could also damage any ECU's or this kind of thing. So we just want to make sure we triple-check. Leaving the garage at nine or ten or twelve or one doesn't change anything."

Explaining McLaren's run plan for the test, Boullier said the first spell of track time would be focused on short runs, with up to ten stints required before it extends the car beyond three laps.

"First we had a plan which we already modified three times I think this morning! There is obviously a lot of system checks, which means you go run by run. Short run first, it's not about the chassis, tyres, anything like this. It's about taking care of different parts of the engine. First reliability, recovery, and checking every code and everything you can.

"So it's going to take us about ten runs to go through before we then go in to another phase which is putting a little bit longer runs to see how long to see if there's anything going wrong after three laps. So that's going to be the plan, and gradually try to charge the engine more and try to push, maybe not to the limit during these two days but try to put more on the electrical package and the recovery.

"We'll try to see if we can go through the mileage and all the runs. In the end we will definitely not try to check the lap time because we have not worked at all on the car, it's just to try to maybe push the recovery and the engine systems."
