A decision on McLaren's 2015 driver line-up is expected to be taken during a board meeting on Thursday.
With Fernando Alonso set to return to the team next season, McLaren has yet to decide whether it will retain Jenson Button or Kevin Magnussen alongside the double world champion. While Button has comfortably outperformed his rookie team-mate this year, Magnussen is seen as the long-term option and Ron Dennis championed for his promotion to a race seat at the start of this season.
McLaren announced ahead of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix that it would not be making a decision on its line-up before December 1 at the earliest, with that statement coming ahead of confirmation of Alonso's departure from Ferrari. With the arrival of Honda - and the difficulties for a new power unit manufacturer highlighted by its struggles in Abu Dhabi last week
- Alonso is believed to prefer Button's experience to help develop the car and power unit next year.
On Thursday a board meeting will be held at the McLaren Technology Centre in Woking, where a final decision on 2015 drivers is expected to be taken.
However, today's board meeting is not expected to be followed immediately by an announcement, with Crash.net
understanding McLaren will then need to finalise terms with the drivers.
