Daniil Kvyat began the season as a rookie who had skipped GP2 to go straight in to an F1 seat, and ends it as Red Bull's new race driver.

In between there were surprisingly few strong results - just eight points in total all season - but that statistic belies numerous strong performances and flashes of potential which will have convinced Red Bull that Kvyat is the right man to replace Sebastian Vettel.

Kvyat scored points in each of his opening two races in F1, with an impressive ninth place on debut in Australia making him the youngest ever driver to score points in a grand prix at the age of 19. Another tenth place in Bahrain took his tally to four points from the opening four races, which was all the more impressive after a tough pre-season for Renault.

The results started to dry up from then on, and he failed to score again after learning that Max Verstappen was set to be his new team-mate in 2015 ahead of the Belgian Grand Prix. However, with Vettel leaving Red Bull, Kvyat was promoted in Japan and followed that immediately by qualifying fifth on the grid for his home race in Russia.

The year ended with another fifth place in qualifying in Abu Dhabi - although he retired from the race - and Kvyat looks mature enough to deal with the pressure of being Daniel Ricciardo's team-mate next season. However, with just 19 grands prix under his belt he will also face even higher expectations after Ricciardo excelled during his first year at Red Bull.
