Probably Lewis Hamilton's most complete year saw him take his second drivers' championship despite a difficult relationship with team-mate Nico Rosberg, but he wasn't quite faultless.

The title looked almost a formality after he bounced back from retirement in Australia with four straight wins, including a brilliantly defensive drive to hold off Rosberg in Bahrain. However, Rosberg's qualifying error in Monaco got to Hamilton, and mistakes started to creep in. Having finished second in Monte Carlo, Hamilton failed to take pole in Canada - one of his favourite circuits - and running behind his team-mate proved costly as he retired when both cars suffered ERS problems.

With Rosberg comfortably back in the lead, Hamilton then made an error in qualifying in Austria and had to settle for second in the race, before another misjudgement on a drying track at Silverstone. However, luck was on his side and he went on to win as Rosberg retired. Looking back, it was a significant moment.

Hit by problems in qualifying at the next two races in Germany and Hungary, Hamilton lost just seven points in total to his team-mate despite Rosberg starting from pole on both occasions. The recovery from the pit lane to third - ahead of Rosberg - at the Hungaroring was the drive of a champion. Then came the flashpoint in Spa, and from that point on Hamilton stepped up a level to win five races in a row, always looking in control once the lights went out.

While he was often beaten to pole by Rosberg, Hamilton had the upper hand in races but another error in Brazil - spinning while set to take the lead - limited him to second place. With double points on offer and the gap 17 points, Hamilton leapt off the line in to the lead and never looked back as reliability problems hit the second Mercedes. Victory gave Hamilton 11 for the season to Rosberg's five, and with it came a much-deserved second drivers' title.
