Daniel Ricciardo has thanked readers of Crash.net
for voting him the 2014 F1 Driver of the Year.
In his first year driving for Red Bull after stepping up from Toro Rosso, Ricciardo outperformed team-mate and defending world champion Sebastian Vettel to take three victories. Having finished a clear third in the drivers' championship behind the two Mercedes drivers – who between them won the other 16 races this year – Ricciardo came out on top in the Crash.net
With over 100,000 votes cast, Ricciardo beat Lewis Hamilton to the title of Driver of the Year with an average score of 8.6 out of 10, and reacting to the result Ricciardo thanked Crash.net
readers for voting for him.
“It really means a lot to be voted driver of the year as I guess it means the fans like what I'm doing out on track,” Ricciardo said. “I had confidence in myself coming into the year but it's been nice to, in a way, be able to prove myself and so awards like this are really nice to get!
“It's been fun mixing it up at the front and winning my first race was an incredible feeling - I'm already hungry for more and to be honest I can't wait for 2015 to be here.”
